Twenty student-athletes from 12 different colleges were named to the 2006 USCAA All-America teams or Academic All-America team in an awards ceremony at the opening banquet of the Division II National Tournament, held Wednesday night at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord.

Fourteen of the honored student-athletes play for teams that are in Concord for the USCAA Tournament this weekend. Representing the NHTI Lynx as a member of the All-America Second Team is point guard Chris “Speedy” Lawes of Peterborough, who has been a consistent team leader and high scorer for the Lynx over the past two seasons. Lawes was recently named Most Valuable Player in the Yankee Small College Conference tournament, which the Lynx won.

Five student-athletes also earned Academic All-America status, achieving a 3.5 or better cumulative grade point average as juniors or seniors at four-year colleges or as seniors at two-year institutions. Those honored were Peter Bates of Northern Maine Community College, the only player to receive both academic and athletic All-America recognition; Bradley White and Matthew Klime of Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture, and Lukasz Cygan and William Haufmann of St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn.
