Second Annual Student Leadership Outing: They Did It!
On Thursday August 21st students, faculty and staff alike descended on the campus of New Hampton School for the second annual Student Leadership Outing. This retreat made for a full day complete with workshop sessions, icebreakers, challenging activities and capped off with a climb up the fifty foot Alpine Tower. The theme for the day was “challenge by choice” which the students understood and chose to accept throughout the day. One of the biggest challenges came from our facilitator for the day, Beth Blankenstein, who asked them to work as a group to problem solve blind folded. Providing great practice in group decision making and effective communication, this activity really brought out the importance of listening to others and collaborative teamwork. The twelve student leaders in attendance represented clubs, organizations, athletics, honor societies, student government and various other departments. There were also ten club advisors who joined us for the afternoon climb to the top of the Alpine Tower. This event was a tremendous success and would not have been possible without the support of the Student Leadership Team and funding from the Student Senate.
