Residence Living at NHTI

Living in the residence hall is an integral part of the total educational experience at NHTI. Every effort is made to provide opportunities for personal growth and development in a safe, secure and clean living environment conducive to the academic and personal development of the student.

Moving into the residence halls of NHTI will be the first time many of our students have moved away from home. The residence life staff is here to help students adjust quickly to their new environment. NHTI has three coeducational residence halls. Each has a full-time professional Residence Director and a staff of Resident Assistants. The resident assistant staff is selected from successful second year students and receives training in all areas of student development including fire and safety concerns to peer counseling.

The Residence Life Office assigns living space based upon student responses to the Residence Hall Application. Most of our new residents are assigned roommates whom they meet for the first time on campus. New residents should expect to spend time getting to know each other. Early mutual agreements should be made on such matters as study time, sleep hours, cleanliness, visitors and sharing possessions.

New students may request to be roommates on their Residence Hall Applications. In order for requests to be considered, both individuals must request each other on the form.

Single rooms are not available to new students unless medical reasons require a student to live alone. Students who have special needs should contact the Residence Life Office.

All resident students are required to purchase a meal plan. Access information about resident student meal plans here.

Internet connections and cable television service are provided to each residence hall room through Comcast without additional charge. Cable television service is also provided to all residence hall lounges. There are public telephones available on each floor for student use. Most rooms are equipped with phone jacks if you would like a phone in your room. This should be something you discuss with your roommate. If you are interested in a phone for your room, you can call Verizon at 1-800-870-9999 to arrange service after you arrive on campus. This would be an independent contract you enter into with Verizon. NHTI assumes no responsibility in this matter.

There are common single sex bathrooms on each floor of the residence halls. They are all equipped with multiple standard bathroom facilities as well as one handicap facility.

Each residence hall is equipped with coin-operated washers and dryers. Washing costs $1.25 and dryers cost $1.00 for 60 minutes. Ironing is permitted in the laundry room on the ironing board provided. Students are reminded to bring their own irons.

In each residence hall, there are study lounges with tables, desks, chairs, etc... Students should be considerate of each other when studying in these areas.

There are TV lounges provided in each residence hall. Each TV is equipped with basic cable.

Ping pong and pool tables are available in each hall for student use. Other equipment such as volleyballs, footballs, board games, fooseball, etc... are also available.

All three residence halls are monitored by an alarm system. This system enhances the security of the halls by limiting access to only the residents and their guests. Our purpose is to maintain a safe environment on campus. Campus Safety Officers are available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Campus Safety is available to provide escorts for students around campus, between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Sunday-Saturday. Escorts provided can be by foot or by vehicle. If you have a medical problem, you can request this service at any time. Contact Campus Safety by dialing the emergency number, 224-3287 or by using the Code Blue Phones. Tell the officer who you are, where you are located, and where you need to go. The officer will give you an estimated time of arrival to your location. Remember that the officer has many other responsibilities to attend during his or her shift and may not be able to respond immediately to your request. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner at all times.

Quiet hours are enforced to insure that students are able to study and sleep in the residence halls. Courtesy hours are from 8pm-10pm Sunday through Thursday and 10pm-12am Friday and Saturday. Courtesy hours are designed to allow those who wish to study or sleep during this time the opportunity to do so without undue interruption. Quiet hours are from 10pm-8am Sunday through Thursday and 12am-10am Friday and Saturday. Quiet hours are designed to be a time when the residence hall is extremely quiet to allow for studying and sleeping. There should be no excessive noise at other times.

All students are expected to vacate the residence halls during times when the Institute is closed.

These periods include:

• Thanksgiving Break
• Winter Holiday
• Spring Break

On-campus housing will not be provided during these break periods. See the Director of Residence Life if you have special needs.

NHTI assumes no responsibility for the loss of or damage to a resident's personal property. The Institute suggests that students consider purchasing renter's insurance for this purpose.

All residence hall students are required to complete and return the necessary health forms before a living space is assigned. For more information regarding these forms please contact the Health Services Office at (603) 271-7153.

The Dr. Goldie Crocker Wellness Center was opened in January, 1996. This beautiful facility has cardiovascular and weight training equipment, basketball and volleyball courts, locker rooms and student lounge areas. The building is also a center for exercise classes, fitness and weight training, various aerobic classes and other intramural programs.

Mail is delivered Monday-Friday by the Resident Assistants or other staff members. Each student has a mailbox in their residence hall. Mail should be addressed in the following way:

Residence Life plays and integral role with involvement in campus social and recreational activities. The staff plans and implements various programs of interest to resident students and commuters on campus. Some programs offered in the past include: comedians, movie nights, coffee houses, dances, live bands, spring fling weekends, and more! Join the Campus Activities Board (CAB) if you would like to help with some of these activities.

NHTI also offers housing for some Manchester CC and Lakes Region CC students. Housing is available for these students on a space available basis. NHTI students who have returned all required forms and have paid a room deposit will be housed by July 31st. CCSNH students will be housed on August 1st if required forms and a room deposit have been received.
