Welcome to NHTI Dental Hygiene Clinic

We are delighted that you have chosen us for your preventive services. At NHTI, we are committed to providing you with the best client-centered treatment possible, while providing our students with an excellent teaching experience. Our students have been educated and evaluated to laboratory and clinical competency prior to treating patients in clinic. Students are closely supervised and evaluated as patient assessment and treatment progresses. Instructors are licensed dental hygienists with advanced degrees, or our staff dentist.

If you are a new client, please inform us of any medical condition that might interfere with your dental treatment, or any medications that you are taking. During your first appointment, a thorough health history is taken, a brief oral examination is performed, as well as a periodontal screening. Radiographs (x-rays) may be taken at this appointment if necessary.

Good home care is an important component to preventive dental health. Our students are trained in client education and are expected to review home care techniques with you. We will try to work our appointments around your schedule. Our students depend on your cooperation and participation.

Procedures Performed

The following are some of the procedures the student dental hygienist will perform during an appointment.

Head & Neck Examination
The student dental hygienist will conduct an oral cancer screening. The screening involves a thorough examination of tissues of the head and neck.

Periodontal Exam
The student will evaluate the gum tissue and bone support around the teeth. Conditions that affect the health and function of these tissues will be identified and discussed with the client.

Restoration Charting
The student dental hygienist will examine the teeth and record fillings, crowns, and bridges that are present.

Plaque Assessment
The amount of soft debris and plaque present on the teeth will be determined. The student will use this information to discuss how it affects the health of teeth and gums.

Calculus (tartar) Assessment
The teeth will be examined for the presence of calculus. The calculus deposits may be located under the gum tissue or on the visible part of the tooth. As part of treatment the student will remove these deposits.

Radiographs (x-rays)
Bitewings and/or full mouth radiographs may be taken to examine the teeth and surrounding structures. A duplicate set can be forwarded to the client's dentist for further treatment and evaluation.

Educational Services
The student dental hygienist will determine, explain and demonstrate individualized home care techniques.

Dental Hygiene Care

Following examination of the hard and soft tissues the student dental hygienist will develop a plan that will address individual oral health needs of each client. Other Preventive Services:
  • Fluoride Treatment
  • Sensitivity Treatment
  • Sealants
  • Nutritional Counseling
Because the clinic is actually a classroom, the student must have their work evaluated frequently by the attending dentist or hygienist. This assures that the client will receive thorough and comprehensive dental hygiene care.

Appointments

Please call 271-7160 for more information or to make an appointment. The NHTI, Concord's Community College Dental Hygiene Clinic offers comprehensive dental hygiene services. Fee Schedule available upon request.

The dental hygiene clinic is a classroom/learning environment where student dental hygienists provide clinical and educational services to individuals in the community. Because the clinic is a learning facility, clients may be required to return for several appointments in order to complete the treatment necessary.

All procedures are performed under the supervision of Registered Dental Hygienists and our staff Dentist.

Clients are requested to alternate between their personal dentist and NHTI Dental Hygiene Clinic. This process helps maintain a flow of new clients that provide appropriate clinical experiences for our students.
