Sports is a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States, creating economic activity comparable to that being generated by the automobile, airline, and timber industries. Many career opportunities exist in sports-related fields, but such jobs require appropriate preparation. The thorough curriculum and relevant internship experiences offered by the Sports Management Program prepares NHTI students for immediate employment in the field, or for further studies on the baccalaureate or graduate levels. Transfer articulation agreements are in place with several four-year colleges, allowing our graduates to transfer to those institutions as juniors after completing their associate degree studies at NHTI.
The Sports Management program is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

One of the major factors contributing to career success in the sports field is experience. Recognizing this fact, our Program includes an internship option for students. Numerous internship opportunities exist, not only in Concord and New Hampshire, but in other parts of the country for qualified and interested students. The faculty works with students to help them find internships in sports settings that interest them. During the internship, the student works as a regular employee for the sponsoring organization (most positions are non-paid, although some offer a small stipend), and reports directly to a supervisor within the organization. The goal of the internship is to provide a mutually beneficial "employment" experience for the intern and the sponsoring organization.
Below are some examples of internship opportunities offered to our students to date:
University of New Hampshire Athletic Department Everett Ice Arena in Concord New Hampshire International Speedway Concord Chamber of Commerce Race Days Committee NHTI Sports Information Office Bay State Games of Massachusetts New England Amateur Athletic Union WKXL Sports Radio New England Sea Wolves Arena Football Team WMUR-TV Channel 9 National Flag and Touch Football League …and many more!
Michael I. Moffett, M.Ed., Department Head
A record-setting athlete during the 1970's at Plymouth State University, Mr. Moffett went on to teach and coach for several years in both public and parochial high schools, and later on at Plymouth State University and at a Marine Corps summer school for officer candidates. A Lieutenant Colonel in the Marine Reserves, he commanded a ground unit during the Persian Gulf Conflict after being activated for Operation Desert Storm.
Mr. Moffett is an experienced sports writer, having served as a reporter and columnist for the Coos County Democrat and the N.H. Times, before publishing his own Sports Monthly in 1986 - The N.H. Score. From 1986-93 he served as Sports Information Director for Plymouth State University and was the first publicist for the Freedom Football Conference.
From 1993-94 Mr. Moffett served as an assistant producer for sports programming for the Yankee Cable Network before coming to NHTI in 1994 as Public Information Officer and later Assistant to the President.
Mr. Moffett was instrumental in the development of NHTI's Sports Management Program, and has taught in the program since it began in 1997. He also served as the head coach of the NHTI Lynx men's basketball program for three years, leading them to a berth in the National Small College Athletic Association national championship tournament in 1998.

Paul T. Hogan, M.Ed., Professor
Paul Hogan has a rich and varied background in the world of New Hampshire sports.
A 1979 graduate of Plymouth State University, Hogan earned a master's degree in education from that institution in 1988. He has taught and coached in New Hampshire for twenty years, including stints at schools in Woodsville, Litchfield, Laconia, and Rochester. His 1990 Laconia Sachem baseball team won the N.H. Class I state championship.
Mr. Hogan came to NHTI from Rochester, N.H., where he served as Director of Athletics at Spaulding High School. Prior to that, he spent eight years as head men's basketball coach at Plymouth State College, where he fashioned a 136-80 record and was twice named Little East Conference "Coach-of-the-Year."
Mr. Hogan is a longtime associate of New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association Executive Director Jim Desmarais and serves on several NHIAA committees.
Mr. Hogan's successful summer basketball camp at NHTI in Concord is an example of how he has applied business and management principles to a commercial athletic endeavor - one that requires accounting, facilities maintenance, marketing, and human resource management.
Mr. Hogan is also NHTI's Director of Athletics and men's basketball coach.
